In keeping with tradition, the OSM is featuring several Canadian and Québec works in this season’s concert calendar.

Some have already been performed by the Orchestra in the past, while others are being presented to audiences for the very first time.

The composers whose works will be heard again this year include some of the biggest names on the Québec music scene. Among them are stalwarts, composers born in the first 30 years of the 20th century, who blazed a trail in the immediate post war period and laid the foundations for contemporary music: Alexander Brott, Jean Papineau-Couture, whose 100th birthday will be celebrated this year, and Serge Garant, the first conductor of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), an ensemble that will celebrate 50 years of existence this season.

And last but not least, Denis Gougeon, one of the composers who continues to leave an indelible imprint on the contemporary musical culture of Québec, is part of this imposing roster.

Finally, the Canadian pioneer of organ music, Raymond Daveluy, will also be featured in the OSM Manulife Competition.
