Donations can be made in cash, by cheque, by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Amex), or by transferring listed securities.

To make an online donation, you must pay by credit card.

An instalment plan is an easy and convenient way to support the OSM, with pre-authorized credit card payments of as little as $12.50 per month.

If you want to register for the monthly giving program, change the amount of an existing donation, or notify us of a change in your credit card number, please call 514-840-7464.

To make a donation online, please visit the OSM website and open an account.

To set up an account, click the Create an account icon, and enter the required information.

If you already have an account, enter your username and password, and log in.

The OSM accepts contributions in the form of:

  • Cash, cheque, and credit card donations
  • Listed securities
  • Bequests, life insurance policies, and gifts of residual interest
  • Tangible personal property (including real estate and works of art)

The OSM reserves the right to refuse or accept any gift offered.

To make a donation in a form other than cash, cheque, or credit card, please contact the OSM planned giving service at 514-840-7425.

We also accept donations in memory of an individual. For donations of $2000 or more, we will acknowledge the deceased person. A tax receipt will be issued in the donor’s name and the family of the honoured individual will be notified of your thoughtful gift.

You can also make a donation as a tribute to an individual’s exceptional contributions, or to mark a birthday, celebration, wedding, birth, or other special occasion.

Once acceptance of the gift has been confirmed, the OSM will send the honouree a letter on your behalf.

The OSM also accepts anonymous donations. A tax receipt will be issued in your personal or company name, but the donation will be acknowledged as ‘Anonymous.’

Tax information

If you make a donation to mark a special occasion, we will issue a tax receipt immediately after the event.

Please note that tax receipts for monthly giving are issued at the end of the following fiscal periods: August 31 and December 31. This means that you may receive more than one receipt, depending on the date of your first instalment.

For all other gifts, we make every effort to ensure that donors receive a tax receipt within four weeks of confirmation of the donation.

The OSM automatically issues tax receipts for all donations of $25 or more.

Receipts include the following information:

  • Donation amount or total amount received
  • Fair market value (value of the benefit to the donor from the donation, where applicable)
  • Eligible amount: portion of gift deducted from the fair market value

The receipt must display the donor’s name and address. It must also provide OSM contact details, charitable registration number, an official signature, as well as the email address of the Canada Revenue Agency.

In compliance with Revenue Canada regulations, tax receipts can only be issued in the donor’s name. For more information on tax receipts issued by Canadian charitable organizations, please visit the Canada Revenue Agency online.

The OSM charitable registration number is 119069524 RR 0001.

Our online payment system complies with the Payment Card Industry data security standard (PCI DSS), which ensures you of the highest possible level of security.
